“In the mean of time, we plan to grow our training center for vascular surgery throughout Indonesia. Right now, the service of vascular surgery is already available from Aceh in the western border of Indonesia to the eastern border in Papua, from the lesser Sunda Islands in the southern border to North Celebes in the northern border.“

Officially, the Indonesian Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (INASVS/PESBEVI) was founded by Prof. Dr. Djang Djusi and Dr. Murnizal Dahlan in 1996. Both are general surgeons who were interested in developing vascular surgery in Indonesia. After Prof. Dr. Djang Jusi finished his general surgery education, and then continued his training in vascular surgery in the Netherlands, while Dr. Murnizal Dahlan trained in France, vascular surgery services in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta had started since 1973 in form of vascular surgery outpatient clinic in Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital. However, the service of vascular surgery was only centralized in Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital, due to lacking of vascular surgeons number in Indonesia. Until 1990, there were only 4 vascular surgeons in Indonesia, 3 of them resided in Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Djang Jusi, Dr. Mur-nizal Dahlan, and Dr. Mulyadi (may him RIP), and one was in Bandung, Prof. Dr. Hendro S. Juwono.

The development of vascular surgery was very slow. In 2010 after 30 years of existence in Indonesia, there were only 13 vascular surgeons, spread in 4 cities, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang and Padang. Vascular surgeon training was only started in 2005 and the first trainee was Dr. Aries Sujarwo from Semarang. Until 2010, the number of trainees was only 5, in average 1 trainee per year.

This field of vascular surgery found its momentum in growth in 2013, when endovascular service started in Cipto Mangunkusumo National Hospital. Since that year, there were many general surgeons who were interested in training vascular and endovascular surgery. In 2013, at first time 3 trainees were accepted in one semester. To this year, 40 trainees had finished their training and 18 trainees in training. The enthusiasm of general surgeons to train vascular surgery is very high, for January 2020 term; there are 12 surgeons from all over Indonesia who enrolled to train in vascular surgery.

The development of this field of surgery is primarily supported by the growth of mi-nimal invasive in vascular surgery, either artery or vein. The growth of this field attracts the general surgeons to be trained in vascular surgery and after finish their training, they will return and become pioneers in their origin cities. The obstacle of the vascular development is the lack of training center, only one in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital- Faculty of Medicine University of Indonesia. In the mean of time, we plan to grow our training center for vascular surgery throughout Indonesia. Right now, the service of vascular surgery is already available from Aceh in the western border of Indonesia to the eastern border in Papua, from the lesser Sunda Islands in the southern border to North Celebes in the northern border.

To prove our contribution in the education, training and researches in vascular and endovascular surgery, on 23rd-26th October 2019 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Indonesia, we hosted a biggest event in vascular surgery field in Asia, “The 20th Asian Society for Vascular Surgery (ASVS) Congress in conjunction with The 14th Asian Venous Forum, The 10th Indonesian Vascular Conference (Inavasc), and The 6th Indonesian Venous Forum”, within theme “Vascular Surgery as a Breakthrough” and were participated almost thousand participants throughout the world, especially Asia and Australia. Hopefully through this journal we could contribute more in the research field of vascular and endovascular surgery. Thank you very much for the first cooperation with the Crossref, and also to the Orcid ID also Google  Scholar. We continue to bring our journal worldwide in the future.
